Helping your loved one change their protection

How to change incontinence products correctly

When incontinence products need changing, it’s normal to feel awkward about it. But if you do it gently and respectfully, you’ll both feel at ease. Knowing how to change your loved one’s products correctly will make the process faster, smoother, and minimise embarrassment.

How often a product should be changed depends on the individual. A person with healthy skin and mobility issues may prefer less frequent changes, whereas a person with fragile skin or bowel incontinence will need to be changed more often.

When you’re fitting the product, make sure it’s securely attached to avoid discomfort and skin chafing. Also, if it’s not snug and secure, there will be a high risk of urine leakage.
