HOW TO DIVIDE THE WORKLOAD

Looking after yourself, and your loved one

Ask for help when you need it

When caring for a loved one, sometimes it can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to go through it alone. It's ok to ask for help. You can reach out to incontinence support groups, volunteers and even paid help. But start by asking friends and family; you'd be surprised at how much people are willing to offer support. Be honest and specific about what you need help with, so that they can help make a real difference. We've got a few ideas to provide support for young carers on how to share the workload.

Cleaning and tidying up

A little bit of domestic help goes a long way. Someone simply doing the laundry for you take a load off your shoulders.

Ask for help with picking up medicines, groceries or household supplies. There’s always something on the list.

Let’s get organised

One way to help keep on top of things is to make a care plan with clearly labelled tasks for each day, so that you know what needs to be done. Then, you can assign tasks to those who have offered to help. Some might enjoy working together, so create a plan that works for everyone. Try using our support plan template to get started.
